At this point, I think it is correct to say musicians are the most secretive set of people in the world because nobody saw this remix coming at all – even if they did, featuring two peculiar Nigerian artists would have never been anyone’s guess.
Know your worth
Khalid and Disclosure dropped their first collaboration of the year just three months ago, and it did fine in the charts. Then two days to the release of the remix, they announce that they would be featuring two unique artists from NIGERIA – give us some accolades abeg, Nigeria to the world! I have heard the original song and the remix repeatedly, and I would certainly pick the remix every time.
Unlike the original song, the remix has a skillful touch of some afrobeats vibes that would make you do that Naira Marley legwork with all the energy left in you – kudos to Disclosure and whoever they worked with for making such track.
Talking about the song proper, Davido never disappoints when it comes to foreign features – and he has continued to set the bars high for anyone who cares to compare. We all know the OBO is a natural, and baba did not even mind spitting some smooth pidgin lines that would certainly have dropped Khalid’s jaws. Besides these, you need to trust Davido to never mess up when it comes to wordplay – every of Davido’s line in the remix were interwoven and added the flavor the song needed to hit the Nigerian waves properly.
Tems, on the other hand, did not do too badly for what we would call her first foreign collaboration. She has been the talk since she dropped her first single, Try Me – she really dealt a blow with that one. The fast rising alte singer has proven that she is probably the sound of the coming generation of Nigerian music. Her “hard and rough” vocals and beautiful backups – she really blended well with Khalid – gave the song the femininity it needed.
Generally, the song is talking about never letting go of your value in the name of love. Know your worth and find someone who will love you at your worst – gotta keep your head up high!
Thumbs up to everyone who made the project worth it.
